Dog dreams

Last night in a half dream
to a barking dog
in a faraway street
I cuddled into you
like a puppy to its mammy.

And I imagine we are in a bag
the top is tied
and we’ve been dumped
in some remote
and forbidding place.

We sit still,
listening,
holding onto each other

in the sure and certain hope
that someone will come.
